Brindavan Gardens, Mysore

When you think of Mysore city of South India, you cannot restrict yourself from thinking about Brindavan Gardens. Brindavan Gardens is considered as one of the most beautiful laid out terrace gardens in the world. It is very popular for its extrordinary beauty, and grandeur. Brindavan Gardens is located in Mandya district at a distance of around 24 km from Mysore.

Covering to the total area of 150 acres, Brindavan Gardens is the most famous tourists attraction in south India. These gardens are the popular sites for many Indian films. Locals mainly visit these gardens during th weekends and holidays when illuminated fountains are switched on. The ambiance created by the musical fountains, lights and water make an evening in Brindavan Gardens really memorable.
Brindavan Gardens is basically a terrace garden laid out behind the Krishnaraja Sagar dam. The garden, which is famous for its symmetric design, extends over an area of 60 acres. It is laid out in three terraces. You can find a log of ornamental plants in the slopes. The garden, which is visited by around 2 million people every year, has innumerable fountains decorated with colored lighting. The evenings are the best in Brindavan Gardens. The illuminated running waters and fountains with changing colors of lights is a beautiful event that the tourists watch every evening.

Major attractions of the Brindavan Gardens

The colossal lands of Brindavan Gardens have numerous options for tourists to check out. Amidst the major attractions of the park one can enumerate the various sections of the garden which include places like The Main Gate, South Brindavan, North Brindavan, Children's Garden, Fruit orchard, Music and Dance Fountains, etc. Here are the details of the mentioned places which usually attract large number of tourists every year. 
  1. The Main Gate: Architected as a replica to the India Gate, the Main gate of the Brindavan Gardens is an awe inspiring tourist attraction. Just opposite to is are the beautiful rose gardens. A glance at the flower lawns from the main gate adds on to the attraction of the place.
  2. The South Brindavan: This is yet another attraction of the Brindavan Gardens located close to the Cauvery Statue. Within the south Brindavan falls the Keveramma Circle which is adorned with numerous fountains. Various patterns of terrace gardens can also be seen here. Plants like Bougainvillea and Allamanda add on the beauty of the place. Ornamental plants and fountains are the major attractions of this section.
  3. The North Brindavan: This is one of the most attractive sections of the garden which consist of four widespread terraces. These terraces are adorned with ornamental plants and trees, flower beds, tree avenues, light and color fountains, etc. Basically the arrangements of flowers, trees and fountains make this place exceptionally attractive.
  4. The Children's Park: When heading towards the south of the Brindavan Gardens, one will come across the Children's Park. Concrete animals, various fascinating aquatic species, birds, slides and other ornaments to amuse the kids compose of the children's park. 
The musical fountain, that is located on the northern side of the garden is a major attraction within the garden during the evenings. Between the main garden and the musical fountain, there is a lake, which you can cross either by enjoying a boat ride or walking through the nearby pathway.The Department of Horticulture started the work of laying out this garden in 1927 AD. For many decades, it remains one of the main attractions for school children across India.
You can reach Brindavan Gardens easily by government and private buses. It is easily accessible. When you happen to go to Mysore, don’t miss this place.
